The Reclining Woman (Picasso)

Image
Picasso was a spanish painter, sculptor, and stage designer. He is considered to be one of the greatest and influential artist in the 20th century. This black and white drawing is called  Femme couchee lisant (1960)  also known as  The Reclining Woman (1960)  by Pablo Picasso. The drawing consists of isolated black, white, and gray hues in order to highlight their formal structure. I found this drawing interesting because of the abstract shapes to make the woman and what looks to be a reclining chair. I also like how Picasso used the black, white, and gray hues to form dimensions in the drawing.

Still Life with Blood Sausage

Image
I picked Picassos drawing called Still Life with Blood Sausage. He made it in 1941. There are a few different things I like about this piece. The first thing is just that it looks like a mess. I'd like to think he was cutting sausage and thought "You know what? I'm gonna draw this." The lighting is very interesting too. It hits a few objects in the front of the drawing but does not light up the right side of the table. I also just like the floating knife towards the bottom of the table.

Pablo Picasso Black & White

Image
I chose this photo because it looked funny yet detailed. The title of this sketch is called Head of a Horse and it is located in the Guggenheim Museum. It looks like the horse was in motion during the time of the sketch. The shading for the background looks like it took a long time to do. Finally, the facial structures of the horse seem to be the most important details out of the sketch.

Still Life a Pitcher and Apples

Image
This still life drawing was done by Pablo Picasso in 1919, it is titled “Still Life a Pitcher and Apples”. In this drawing you see a pitcher, four apples and a dish in black and white. I like how the shading is done in the drawing because it shows contrast and it really makes it look realistic.

Black Jug and Skull

Image
This is called "Black Jug and Skull", it was done on February 20th, 1946. Picasso used a lithographic crayon and ink, which he scraped back with a tool to create highlights. I like how he used the black and white, I enjoy how the transitions from black to white are very sharp. I like how the skull picture is half white and half black, so that it adds depth to it.

The portrait of arthur rossler

Image
The portrait of Arthur rossler was created by egon schiele, in 1910. Arthur Roessler was an Austrian writer ,art-critic and friend to Egon Schiele. Arthur was born in Vienna in 1877,  He was quick to see artistic potential and was happy to encourage and sponsor young talent, in particular the somewhat quirky and provocative art of Egon Schiele. In the painting you see a distinguished well dressed man sitting with his hands across his body. I like the different shades of brown and the details on his face, hands, and suite.

Egon- Emily Dee

Image
This piece is by Egon Schiele and is a self-portrait. I picked this piece because it is very intriguing and I am wondering what he is thinking about during this. He looks very mysterious and as if he is up to something.

Egon Schiele - Kimberly Durso

Image
This is a self portrait called "Standing Male Figure" created by Egon Schiele in 1914. This picture stood out to me because of the vibrant orange jacket. I think it is interesting how all of Schiele's portraits are portrayed with prominent and sharp features. It seems as if this is a continuous line drawing and he was not looking at the paper while he was creating this piece, especially when he was drawing the hands, as it is messy and lopsided.

Emily Gursky Shiele Self Portrait

Image
This is a self portrait by Egon Shiele with charcoal and pastel. I chose this one because I thought the way the figure is positioned was unusual but interesting. I also really liked how Shiele used different colors to show contrast and different values in his face and the shirt/jacket. The dark blue/black on the figure's face help define the cheek bone and creases on his forehead. The reds and blues on the shirt/jacket really give it depth and helped me see the folds and creases in that as well.

Jake Camerino Egon

Image
I chose this painting because the other ones i found to be really weird and kind of creepy. Obviously this one is really weird as well but it made me laugh. With it being a really skinny kid doing whatever pose he is doing while also having hairy armpits. When I looked at it I immediately laughed and chose this as the painting to blog about.

Sitting Woman with Legs Drawn Up - Egon Schiele

Image
Sitting Woman with Legs Drawn Up, 1917 by Egon Schiele   Egon Schiele was an Austrian painter. Schiele was a major figurative painter of the early 20 th  century. Schiele work is noted for its intensity and its raw sexuality, and the many self-portraits. The twisted body shapes and the expressive line that characterize Schiele’s painting and drawing mark the artist as an early exponent of Expressionism. I chose Schiele artwork called “Sitting Woman with Legs Drawn Up”. I love the red tones in her hair and the greens in her loosely fitted shirt. Her intense appearance and body position really got my attention. Overall, I love everything about this artwork.

"The Cofee Pot" by Pablo Picasso is a black and white still life that caught my attention by its edginess.  I really enjoy the coloring in particular it gives or adds on to the uniqueness. I also thought of the different types of shadowing he does, it's almost as if its cut in half. Such a simple still life yet it's drawn as if it's the center of everything.

Egon Shiele

Image
I chose this photo by Egon Shiele because of the detailing on the face. Shiele also focuses on the positioning of how the person was sitting. The name of this piece is called Portrait of Paris von Gutersloh and it was made in 1918. The Jaw structure of the drawing is detailed as well. Although this photo is simple one can tell that Egon focused on the facial details on this portrait.

Self-portrait with hands on chest (Egon Schiele)

Image
This self-portrait is called Hands on Chest (1910)   by Egon Schiele. Schiele was an Australian painter, who was a protege of Gustav Klimt who was a major figurative painter of the early 20th century. This was a self-portrait of himself made in 1910. The portrait is shown with watercolors with charcoal line-drawing. The artist's hair is spiked up and his hair color is an electric blue. His hands are folded at his chest, his long fingers reaching across his body. I chose this artwork because I thought the artist's expression was interesting and vacant. I also liked his colored hair, that's what I first noticed about this portrait.

Picasso- Kyle Villano

Image
9/25/2020 This image is called "The Kiss: and was created by Picasso in 1969. This piece is part of his back and while collection. This painting is of a man and a woman kissing. I choose this image mostly because of the way that Picasso decided to draw the man and the women. I am, fascinated and the curves that he used. It almost looks as if their tongues are out while they are kissing and the eyes on the women are fascinating.    I found this image from-  https://brooklynrail.org/2012/12/artseen/picasso-black-and-white

Woman with Long Hair

Image
Egon Shiele made this drawing in the year 1914. This piece is called Woman with Long Hair. It's very hard to find information about this specific piece by Egon because there is also an oil painting by him Woman with Long Hair. I feel like this piece stands out among all of the work I found. Most of his work doesn't show the subject staring at you. It also look s unfinished, even though the head is very detailed. I liked this one because its borderline creepy. She is just staring at you. There's not really any color in the fae besides the eyes (which almost look like they are looking past you) and the lips.

mobile lovers by Bansky

Image
This work by Banksy is titled "Mobile Lovers", he created this in Bristol, UK. in 2014 on a wall owned by Broad Plains Boys Club. In the painting you see a man and a women holding each other closely, you also see their attention is not on the person there holding but on there phones. I think the meaning of the photo is on matter how much some loves you the will always love there phone more.

Seated Woman with Bent Knee

Image
This portrait is called Seated Woman with Bent Knee, it was done in 1917 by Egon Schiele.  Chose this image because I like the coloring of the woman's shirt and her red hair. Her red and facial structure are very striking and beautiful. Another aspect of this portrait that I enjoy is how she is placed hugging her knee and has her head leaning on it.

Banksy- Emily Dee

Image
Banksy is one of the world's most controversial street artists and is known for his unique graffiti works. This piece was done by Banksy on Marble Arch. This piece was revealed on the last day of a nearly two-week peaceful protest for extinction rebellion. Extinction Rebellion is an international activist organization that uses nonviolent methods to encourage those in power to take action on climate and environmental issues. I chose this piece because I admire the message he is displaying about a positive political movement. This piece depicts a child, showing that it is important to care for our planet so our children will be able to enjoy the same wonders we can.

Kaitlin Droluk- Banksy

Girl With Balloon Banksy is an anonymous England-based street artist, political activist, and film director, active since the 1900s.  A little girl who lets a heart-shaped balloon go:  Girl with Balloon  represents one of Banksy’s most popular works. Next to it, there was the famous inscription  “There is always hope” . I love everything about this piece of artwork. I love the deep red in the balloon and the shadowing & shading of the little girl. I choice this piece of work because I feel like there are multiple interruptions of the story behind this work.

Emily Gursky Banksy Art

Image
This graffiti was done by Banksy in San Francisco. I chose this piece, because the red text against the white building first caught my attention. I think the message, "this'll look nice when it's framed" is ironic, because the art would inevitably be removed and never be framed in its original form. Maybe he is trying to convey the idea that a piece of art is sometimes only considered "nice" when it is framed or preserved so that others can see it. The stencil of the boy next to the text was also interesting to me. The scribbled and jagged font reminded me of how a child's handwriting could look, and the young boy is holding a paint brush next to it. So, I think Banksy wants the piece to look like the boy "painted" it.

Jake Camerino bansky

Image
this street art by Banksy stood out to me because i like how it takes a street sign that was probably never noticed into art. the two kids trying to teach it with one standing on the other ones back just to touch it. Resembles something that kids would actually try to do i myself would try to touch that sign. it makes the building look better in  a way i know its illegal but it just draws people to the building having this art on it.

Image
This is graffiti art by Banksy called "Graffiti Removal." It was created in May, 2008 on a street in London and it was painted over in August, 2008. The street art depicts a person power washing the wall to remove the art work. I chose this piece because I think it is interesting how he was able to spray-paint the wall but at the same time make it seem like the paint was being removed. I also noticed how the art the man is trying to remove depicts prehistoric art. He does this in order to express his feelings of disappointment that art is under appreciated and will be removed, regardless of its meaning.

Bansky Assignment

Image
I chose this Bansky photo because of the detailing that's in it. Each rat has its own positioning and task. Even in the mirror, there are tallies and to me, that means that the rats are attempting something. The rat on the toilet seat looks like he's using the bathroom as well. If you look closely to the bottom left there is a rat hole that he drew as well. I do not know what the title of this piece is. I took this photo from his Instagram account. overall the detailing in this piece is what made me choose it.

Image
I chose this image from  Egon Schiele because I loved the style. I can't pinpoint the exact type but I do enjoy the comforting aspect of it. I also liked the way the clouds are subtle towards the top. The coloring in the trees and it gives it more of a darker appearance.

Four Trees

Image
Kyle Villano  This painting is called four trees. Egon Schiele completed this painting in 1917. This landscape painting draws attention to both the trees an the rolling hills in the background of the sun. I chose this image because it remains me of the fall season (a season that we are preparing to enter). This painting reminds me of the changing leaves, something that I cannot wait to experience.

Banksy Rat

Image
I really like this stencil that Banksy did. He includes humor in some of his street art and this is one of them. He also does a lot of art with rats in them, but I like this one in particular. I like that the rat looks like he was caught in the middle of something. And it's not a "pretty" stencil he made, the rat is dirty looking and disoriented. Thats goes with the words next to it, showing he's not really trying to look good.

Worn Out

Image
This drawing is called "worn out" created in 1882 by Vincent Van Gogh. Van Gogh had a strong liking towards the working class. He wanted to emphasis the dramatics of the  working class figures that are marked by life. I picked this drawing cause I feel that relate to it. I know what it feels like to be worn out after a long day of working. In this drawing Van Gogh really captures the emotion of the subject, to help aid the feeling that the person is really worn out.

Cameraman and Flower

Image
This piece is called Cameraman and Flower. It is located in Park City, Utah, on the wall of a coffee shop. Park City is where the Sundance Film Festival is held, and Banksy created this leading up to the premier of his film in 2010. This piece represents how far people will go to preserve the beauty of something but it can lead to its destruction. I chose this piece because I saw it in person in January. What I really like about this piece is the yellow background. I think that it adds color and allows the pink in the flower to standout.

Image
This is a painting from 1900 by Paul Cezanne. It is his still life with apples and a milk jug. This picture stood out next to his other still life paintings as this one seems as if the objects are balancing on the table. I like how this entire painting is filled with color. I noticed that Cezanne paints the backgrounds of each and every one of his still life paintings rather than only focusing on the objects in the center.

Image
This drawing is called “Road in Etten” created by Vincent Van Gogh in 1881. This artwork depicts a winter road in Etten and the daily lives of the locals. I learned that a lot of Van Gogh’s artwork depicted Dutch farmland and laborers performing their basic routines. I chose this picture because I found it fascinating how Van Gogh was able to incorporate dimension in order to draw the viewers attention down the road. I also think it is interesting how he used very little color which became more apparent the longer I looked at the drawing.

Black Lives matter

Image
This art was posted on Bansky's Instagram. It is used in a post that supports the Black Lives matter movement. I chose this because of its relevance right now. I like the details put into it. The Flag is vibrant and dominates most of the shot. The candles by the memorial is not lit but the candle that lights the flags is.

Balloon Girl (Banksy)

Image
This stencil mural is called Balloon Girl (2002) by Banksy. This graffiti artist used the streets of London as a canvas for his artwork. This mural shows a little girl letting go of a red heart-shaped balloon. What I found interesting was how the girl was colorless only black and white, while the balloon had a red striking color. When you look at the picture at first glance your eyes are drawn to the red object. To me it seems as if the girl was letting go of something literally and metaphorically.

Mont Sainte Victoire (Paul Cezanne)

Image
This oil painting is called Mont Sainte Victoire by Paul Cezanne in 1904-1906. He painted a limestone mountain ridge in the south of France which is called Montagne Sainte-Victoire. What drew me into this painting was the mountain and the city below it. I also like how Cezanne used the color oils in his paintings to make it seem that half of the city is being covered in sunlight. This makes it even more realistic like a photo that was taken. And lastly, I love how he captured the image of a sunrise over a city it just makes it more life-like.

The Boy in the Red Vest

Image
The painting above is called The Boy in the Red Vest. This was created in 1889 or 1890 by the likes of    Paul Cézanne. I chose to talk about this painting because I kind of feel for the kid.    Paul Cézanne gives the kid an innocent look to look as if he is sad or is thinking which grabs my interest making me want to talk to him. The pattern of the pastels gives the painting a different feel which adds to the gloomy mood I was feeling.
Image
This is a Drawing by Vincent van Gogh was published August of 1888. The drawing better known as The Harvest  shows immense amounts of detail using simple lines. Van Gogh was able to show an entire field filled with crops and buildings giving  the viewer a chance to be immersed in the drawing itself.

The tile of this artwork is "Coronavirus Rats" and was painted during the coronavirus lockdown. I choose this pice for its interesting origin story. From watching Bansky's video about this artwork, he completed these drawings on a London Tube. To paint these, Bansky posed as a cleaner and, instead of cleaning supplies, he had spray paint. I choose this artwork as it is connected to the daily world that we live in. We are currently living through a Global Pandemic and I find it interesting to see how people are reacting to this "new normal". UPDATE, this art has been removed from the tube.  All information is found from-  https://www.vulture.com/2020/07/banksys-coronavirus-art-rats-london-tube.html https://www.instagram.com/p/CCn800cFIbe/?utm_source=ig_embed

I thought this intrigued me because of our current world. I enjoyed the detail of how the mask has a crease and is the central color of the whole piece. I also noticed the individual may be a minority so I do think a message is being invaded.

"The Peppermint Bottle"

Image
This painting is called "The Peppermint Bottle" by Paul Cézanne, an oil painting completed between 1893 and 1895. I was drawn to this still-life, mainly because of the white cloth and what appears to be a blue blanket or jacket. I really liked how realistic their creases and folds look. I personally feel that fabric is a very difficult object to draw or paint. I also liked how vibrant each fruit is. They appear to be peaches and all have slightly different coloring from each other, which adds to the realistic feel of this scene. The glass bottle is also really interesting, because Cézanne captured its transparency. Its curved shape distorts the peach and the white cloth behind it, too.

Three Skulls

Image
Paul Cezanne painted Three Skulls in 1898. He used oil to paint it. Cezanne does a series of paintings with skulls. These three skulls are used in a few paintings specifically. I think the colors are interesting. One of the skulls has cooler tones than the other two. He also did not just copy the shape of the next skulls, you can clearly see that they are different shapes. The background also looks like a different style. It seems less blended than the foreground.

The Basket of Apples

Image
This painting is by Paul Cézanne, it was done in the year 1895. It currently belongs to the Art Institute of Chicago. I was first drawn to this painting because I liked the bright colors used for the apples. After examining the piece some more I found I liked how the basket and apples aren't placed neatly. The basket is tilted with apples spilling out, the table cloth underneath is wrinkled. It made it feel more realistic rather than it being perfectly placed to be drawn.

This drawing caught my eye because of the skull it was out of the ordinary. Other drawings were just fruit whereas this one seems to have a darker background and scene overall. I enjoy the texture of both the fruits and the skull. I also think the blanket was placed right in a specific place that fitted the scenery.

Street in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer

Image
This drawing is called Street in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Vincent Van Gough made this drawing when he was visiting a Mediterranean village in Saintes-Maries de la Mer. I chose this drawing because I am intrigued by how the drawing technique makes each item in the drawing identifiable. For example the Dark, thicker lines in the bush makes it look dense and distinguishable.

Cezanne's still life.

Image
This is one of Cezanne's still life oil canvas. I picked this photo because of the details that are used in the piece. On the vase, you can see the creases and what may have been chipped paint in the middle. The vase is also on a blanket or a sheet of cloth that is detailed with flowers. The flowers in the vase also have great detailing with only 2 flowers being yellow and the rest are white. Overall, I can tell this piece took several hours because of the amount of color and details that are on the piece.

Ginger Jar and Fruit on a Table

Image
This drawing called Ginger Jar and Fruit on a Table was drawn in the year 1890. This drawing is a still life of multiple pieces of fruit and a ginger jar (as the title suggests). I choose this painting as it was the first drawing that I found that I enjoyed. I have always (for some reason) enjoyed still lifes, especially fruit still lifes. When I see a fruit still life, I always think of a home that would love to live in. It makes me feel at peace.  By- Kyle Villano  All information, including the image, on this drawing can be found at: https://www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/artist16.html

This is Paul Cezanne still life drawing "With Teapot and Fruit". Paul Cezanne was a French painter and a great Post-Impressionist whose ideas were influential in the aesthetic development of many 20th century artists and art movements. Paul Cezanne has a unique method of building form with color. His early pictures were romantic and classical themes with dark colors. I chose this still life drawing because it reminds me of a happy and peaceful morning.

Paul Cezanne is a famous French painter, one of the greatest of the Post-Impressionists, whose works and ideas were influential in the aesthetic development of many 20 th century artists and art movements, especially Cubism. Paul Cezanne was born on January 19, 1839, and died October 22, 1906. Cezanne is famous for his still-life drawings. A still life drawing focuses on still objects. The subject matter is inanimate and never moves, typically Cezanne did still life drawings/painting using fruit. The drawing I picked it called Still Life by Paul Cezanne. This picture first caught my attention because of the color choices. I really appreciate how deep and rich the color choices he used. I love how simple this design is, but yet so detailed. I like the shading and how he highlights the texture of the fruit. Also, I really like the shading in the vase and plate. Lastly, I like he blended the colors together. Landscae with Houses

Image
The sketch titled "Landscape with Houses" really stood out to me. This was drawn in the Auvers-sur-Oise building in the year 1890, which happens to be the year he died. It stands out from the rest because of the simplicity from the rest of his drawings and the bold lines. It looks like it was drawn with a thicker pen tip as opposed to the thinner more delicate drawing that I came across more. I also like the multiple different shades of blue. It looks like a drawing that was whipped up pretty quickly. I also find the perspective of the houses interested.

Sien with Child on her Lap

Image
This piece was done in 1882. It depicts Van Gogh's mistress Sien with a child placed on her lap. Van Gogh met Sien in January of 1882, she was a prostitute who had been abandoned by the father of the child she was carrying. He took her in as a model for his art despite both his family and supporters lack of approval. I chose this drawing at first because I liked the shading, after hearing about Sien and her backstory I found I enjoyed the series of works that feature her even more.
