Egon Schiele - Kimberly Durso

 


This is a self portrait called "Standing Male Figure" created by Egon Schiele in 1914. This picture stood out to me because of the vibrant orange jacket. I think it is interesting how all of Schiele's portraits are portrayed with prominent and sharp features. It seems as if this is a continuous line drawing and he was not looking at the paper while he was creating this piece, especially when he was drawing the hands, as it is messy and lopsided.

This is a painting of the Williamsburg Bridge made by Richard Estes in 1995. This painting caught my attention because it looks so realistic. It does not look like it was painted at all but it looks like a picture shot off of a professional camera. There is so much detail, Estes even included the graffiti and rust. It amazes me that he was able to paint from this angle and include all of the shadows, especially that the painting is not based on a photograph because the shadows must have been moving as he was painting.

Emily Dee "Jamming at the Savoy"

  Romare Bearden was an African-American artist and writer who depicted African American life. His early work focused on unity and cooperation within the African-American community. His use of the collage theme reemerged around the 1960s. I chose this piece titled "Jamming at the Savoy" because to me it is a very happy piece. The colors he used are bright and vibrant. I love music, and I enjoy how everyone looks happy playing their instruments.

Self-portrait with hands on chest (Egon Schiele)

  This self-portrait is called Hands on Chest (1910)   by Egon Schiele. Schiele was an Australian painter, who was a protege of Gustav Klimt who was a major figurative painter of the early 20th century. This was a self-portrait of himself made in 1910. The portrait is shown with watercolors with charcoal line-drawing. The artist's hair is spiked up and his hair color is an electric blue. His hands are folded at his chest, his long fingers reaching across his body. I chose this artwork because I thought the artist's expression was interesting and vacant. I also liked his colored hair, that's what I first noticed about this portrait.
