Kathe Kollwitz- Kimberly Durso

This piece of art is called "Bread From War" by Kathe Kollwitz, created in 1924. Kollwitz's artwork symbolizes the great deal of suffering German families endured during World War I and World War II. The picture depicts two starving children begging their mother for food, specifically bread, during the time of war. I chose this picture because I thought it was interesting how Kollwitz was able to show the extreme agony though the children's facial expressions. I feel that the picture expresses such strong emotion that the viewer can almost hear the children crying.
