"Boats on the Sea"

This sketch is called "Boats on the Sea," created in 1888 by Vincent Van Gogh. According to vincentvan gogh.org, this was done using pencil, reed pen, quill, and black ink. This sketch caught my attention because of how much motion it shows. The short, curved lines of the water make it look like wind is blowing and waves are rising/crashing. The curved look of the sails makes the boats look like they are moving across the water as well. I also like how much depth there is, because sailboats are actually visible far out on the water and on the "horizon" of this sketch.
